Choose Ystrad Mynach

Ystrad Mynach Town Centre is affectionately known locally as ‘the village’ and prides itself on its sense of community, offering a mix of independent businesses interspersed with major retailers.

Ystrad Mynach is easily accessible by bus and car, and offers excellent connectivity to major transport routes, located just 30 minutes from the M4 and with easy access to the A470 and A465 Heads of the Valley Road.  A train station is located on the edge of town, allowing commuters to reach Cardiff in 30 minutes and onward travel to major cities across the UK.

Visit our transport and parking section which includes bus, train and taxi information and details of car parks available in Ystrad Mynach.

The layout of the town centre creates a clearly defined retail hub, consisting of small independent retailers, mixed with services including hairdressers, a library, churches and a post office.  Two supermarkets are situated on the edge of the town centre with good pedestrian links to the nearby High Street.  Several key projects in recent years have transformed the area, including the nearby Council Headquarters, the new Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital and the Centre for Sporting Excellence, close to the college campus of Coleg y Cymoedd which has over 13,000 students.

Gelligaer Community Council actively supports many of the town's initiatives, together with CCBC’s programme of events held across the town centre throughout the year, including the Ystrad Mynach Spring and Winter Fairs.

Details of the Council’s events programme can be found on the Visit Caerphilly website.

The surrounding area offers a number of recreational and leisure activities, including fitness classes and sporting facilities at Sue Noakes Leisure Centre.  Visitors can take a walk around the Green Flag Award-winning Ystrad Mynach Park, whilst the nearby Parc Penallta Country Park offers spectacular views and is home to the famous Sultan the Pit Pony.

Free Wi-Fi has recently been rolled out across the town centre, with visitors able to connect via the ‘FreeCCBCWifi’ network.  Funding has also been secured for Ystrad Mynach as part of the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Placemaking programme, which will be allocated towards making improvements to public spaces within the town.
