Disabled person band reduction

Your bill may be reduced if your home has certain features which are essential or of major importance to the wellbeing of a person with a disability, (whether an adult or child), who is resident in the dwelling.

Who can apply?

Your home must have one of the features below, and it must be of vital or major importance to the disabled person's wellbeing:

  • an extra kitchen or bathroom for the specific needs of the disabled person

  • an extra room, not a bathroom, kitchen or toilet, that is mainly used by the disabled person and is required to meet their additional needs

  • enough indoor space for the disabled person to use a wheelchair, the wheelchair must be needed for day-to-day living indoors.

The extra room or space for wheelchair use must be of major importance to the disabled person's well being. This means that without this room or space, the disabled person would either:

  • find it physically impossible or extremely difficult to live in the dwelling

  • their health would suffer

  • the disability would be likely to become more severe. If you think you qualify you will need to complete the following application form.

How much is the reduction?

If your home is eligible, your bill is reduced to that of a property in the valuation band immediately below the band shown on the valuation list. For example, if your home is in band D, your bill will be reduced to that of a band C dwelling. This does not affect the value of your home or its banding on the valuation list.
